Slow Food/100-Mile Diet/BC Fruit Growers
Bella Gelateria believes in, supports and promotes the Slow Food, 100-Mile Diet and BCFGA concepts and movements.

Slow Food

www.slowfoodvancouver.com
"Slow Food Vancouver is part of the Slow Food International Movement, an association of over 80,000 members in over 100 countries. We are enslaved by speed and have all succumbed to the same insidious virus: Fast Life, which disrupts our habits, pervades the privacy of our homes and forces us to eat Fast Foods.

To be worthy of the name, Homo Sapiens should rid himself of speed before it reduces him to a species in danger of extinction. A firm defense of quiet material pleasure is the only way to oppose the universal folly of Fast Life. Our defense should begin at the table with Slow Food. Let us rediscover the flavors and savors of regional cooking and banish the degrading effects of Fast Food. In the name of productivity, Fast Life has changed our way of being and threatens our environment and our landscapes. So Slow Food is now the only truly progressive answer."

100-Mile Diet Society - Vancouver

www.slowfoodvancouver.com
"The 100-Mile Diet Society and the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm have united to explore how sustainable agriculture can help reduce climate change and nurture the environment.

The “Foodshed Project” is building a strong sense of place so we can deepen our local and planetary connections. The food we eat is intimately linked to our landscape, history and communities."

BC Fruit Grower's Association

www.bcfga.com
Bella Gelateria also supports the BC Fruit Grower's Association (BCFGA).

"We are an industry association representing BC fruit growers’ interests through activities which include lobbying governments for positive change to risk management programs, such as crop insurance and the Net Income Stabilization Program, and providing services and products to growers."

The Passion
Bella Gelateria (Bella) was born the day Anna and James were married in Venice, Italy. As the newlyweds walked through the narrow streets, shopkeepers ran out and yelled “Bella” at the beautiful bride. Today, the word “Bella” still elicits a beautiful memory and planted a seed that resulted in the creation of our business, one built on the foundation of passion and our love for Italy.

Learning the Craft of Gelato
James and Anna bring a wealth of knowledge to the food industry. Combined with their passion for gelato, they share extensive small business and corporate expertise. James (already a successful award winner for his artisan bread bakery) has extensive knowledge of true Italian artisan gelato. Under the expert tutelage of Italian Champions and Maestros, James apprenticed and honed his skills in the art of gelato in Italy. James received formal training at the Italian Culinary Institute and advanced masters training at Carpigiani's Gelato University. His passion and commitment to hand crafting the best gelato soon caught the attention of Time Magazine Online. Subsequently, James was selected by a major Italian newspaper for a feature article - a North American gelatière in Italy! In 2012, James will represent Canada at the World Cup of Gelato in Rimini, Italy.
